Basketball Team
The Fleischer Foundation currently sponsors three basketball teams in the Mukuru Slum: a youth team from Our Lady of Nazareth, a primary school run by Marianists, an adult women’s team; and an adult men’s team. Our team at Our Lady of Nazareth was accepted into the USA sponsored Jr. NBA program in Kenya. This program offers an extracurricular activity that wouldn’t otherwise be available to the children and young adults in Mukuru. We believe that education exists outside the classroom too. This program teaches sportsmanship and teamwork but also allows these young people to focus their efforts on a common task.
We are very thankful to The Browning School in New York, NY in the United States of America for providing uniforms, water bottles, whistles, and other basketball supplies for the benefit of this program.
Africa In The Moot
In line with our mission to empower students from developing countries, The Fleischer Foundation has embarked on a journey to support law students across Africa to attend mooting competitions, most specifically the Willem C. Vis Moot. Universities from Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Mozambique, Lesotho and South Africa are now able to compete with their international counterparts.
